Share a File or Folder

Share sends an email from OneDrive/Office 365. Copy link lets you paste the link in your own message. Both use the same permission settings:

Anyone with this link (anonymous)
  • No sign-in required; recipients can forward the link.
  • Options: Allow editing, set an expiration date, add a password, or block download.
  • Use for: non-sensitive files or broad, temporary access.
People in Sinclair Community College (internal)
  • Accessible to signed-in Sinclair users.
  • Use for: internal files and folders shared across departments.
Specific people (named recipients)
  • Only listed people can open; works with Microsoft accounts (O365 orgs or personal Outlook/Live/Hotmail).
  • Recipients cannot forward the link for access.
  • Use for: sensitive content or when you must control exactly who can view/edit.

Share from Word/Excel

  • Open the document from OneDrive, finish your edits, then click Share (upper-right). Choose the same link settings as above.

Collaborate in Real Time

  • Share the document; when others join, you’ll see their presence in the upper-right and edits appear live.

Move a File or Folder

  • Select the item, choose Move to, and pick a Group or SharePoint site destination.

Tip: If a recipient has trouble opening a shared link, verify their permission type and that they’re signed in with the intended account.
